Car Market is an organised space where travellers can buy and
sell their vehicles . You can choose from a huge selection of vehicles
sold by fellow travellers. This allows you to buy in a safe environment,
whilst our staff offer you all of the advice you need to buy in the
correct manner. It is very important that you talk to our staff before
buying a vehicle. We are not car dealers and do not receive
any commission for vehicles sold. We are here to help you, offering
free and independent advice and support. It is very important that
as a visitor to this country you have all of the information you
need in order to buy and sell a vehicle safely and in the correct
manner.
BUYING SAFELY AND CORRECTLY
For buyers we can guide you through the potential minefield of
buying a used car, handling the process from A-Z, all under one
roof.
Every vehicle requires a W.O.F (warrant of fitness) and registration
to legally be on the road.At the Backpackers Car Market the following
services are available and extremely advisable for all travellers;
1. Vehicle Information Report - Legal Check
Make sure you do a Legal Check on any vehicle you would like to
buy. This will advise you of any legal or financial problems with
the vehicle. Please note that if you do not check the vehicle prior
to purchase, you as the new owner will become liable for any legal
problems or outstanding debts. A Vehicle Information Report can
purchased in our office (!) or you can do it easily on the phone
by calling 03 - 377 3177.
2. Mechanical Check
The first step is to get your potential car check mechanically
checked. A detailed ‘mechanical inspection’ will tell
you the condition of the vehicle you are buying and will help you
find the
right car at the right price. The cost of a mechanical check is $100. Waiting
time for appointments usually not more than an hour.
3. Change of Ownership
Upon satisfactory completion of these checks you will be able
to negotiate a fair price for a vehicle. At this point it is
your
legal responsibility to transfer the ownership of the car into
your name.
This can be done right here at the Backpackers Car Market and
only takes a minute and costs $28.
4. Insurance
Having bought your Car/Van it is also advisable to take out
some motor insurance . We offer budget third party insurance
at the
best market prices. One small premium allows you to insure
up to 4 drivers
for a period of 3, 6, 9 or 12 months depending on the length
of your stay in New Zealand and the age of the youngest driver.
